Last weekend, Oleg and I jumped on a plane and flew for a quick visit to the north west of England to attend my friend’s wedding at one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been, the Lake District in Cumbria. The Lake District has been on UNESCO’s World Heritage List since 2017 and after having been there you can certainly understand why.

The Lake District, as you can hear from its name, is known for its many beautiful lakes of which Lake Windermere is the biggest. The lush forests, green fells, stone fenced pastures and incredibly cute villages surrounding the lakes makes the place extraordinarily beautiful, like in a fairy tale. Which it actually kind of is. Through the years the area has worked as the source of inspiration for many writers, illustrators and painters of which one of the most famous is probably the children’s book author Beatrix Potter who’s many books are describing these exact landscapes. It is therefore no surprise that every little house, picturesque café, winding country road and lakefront remind you of your childhood fairy tales.

BOWNESS-ON-WINDERMERE

Even though we were only there for a two-day trip we still had some time in between the wedding program to visit some of the nearby villages such as Bowness-on-Windermere and Grasmere. Both places are two of the most popular tourist sites in the area so in addition to being blessed with a fantastic weather, we were also lucky with the timing of our visit, just before tourist season. And speaking of blessed, our hotel and wedding venue, the super cosy Boadoaks Country House Hotel with its stunning views, was for sure one of the most beautiful in the area. The wedding couple couldn’t have picked a better place for their special day. But more on the wedding in my next post.. 😉
