It’s a quarter past ten in the evening when the music starts playing once again. We get up from the floor and take our positions. There’s still time to go through the choreography a few more times, both facing the mirror and without it, before I have to leave. My work trip to Copenhagen is waiting for me the next morning. It’s not until eleven however that I close the doors to the dance studio behind me. I guess I won’t be spoiled with sleep tonight either. On the other hand, sleep is probably the last thing on my mind at that moment. The feeling after our dance practices is almost always energetic, happy and carefree.
The example above pretty much describes these last two months in a nutshell. Our dance group Urban Breeze participated in the Glow dance competition in the middle of November at the same time as we were practicing for Baila Baila’s big dance gala at the Savoy Theatre. Even though our practices often finished late and I didn’t always get as much sleep as I’d wished for, I still wouldn’t change it for anything. We placed second in the urban division at the dance competition and had an unforgettable experience dancing on the big stage at the Savoy Theatre.
Our successes and accomplishments are always very rewarding, especially after having worked so hard at it, but they’re not the reason for why I carry on dancing. The most important part is the dancing itself and everything it gives me; energy, joy, happiness, strength and of course all my amazing dance girls that I get to share it all with.
